iMobileSitter

A innovative anti brute force solution to store your credentials on iPhones?

The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology recently released a password manager (iMobileSitter) for the iPhone with an innovative approach which makes brute force attacks useless. The idea of the iMobileSitter is not to notify the user if the entered master password for authentication is incorrect. The app lets the user in anyways, but the plain text credentials (pins, passwords) are not correctly encrypted as well.

Accordingly the user would not know if he mistyped his password. Therefor an optical feedback exists. It shows a unique set of icons for any password.

A main reason for buying is that I do not want to save my secrets within a password manager from any company. Nothing about their know how or their technology public. Things are different with Fraunhofer SIT. A well know German research institute.

The app is available on the AppStore.

Cheers, mavi

Hacking Windows Phone 7

25/01/2011 Leave a comment

Did you ever think about hacking a mobile operating system?

If you do so be carefully, Apple or Sony won’t laugh. They are going to discuss the legal aspect at a court ;-)

Microsoft has a different approach: The developer team ChevronWP7 jailbreaked a Windows Phone 7 and got a free T-Shirt (see here).

Furthermore they are going to have an open discussion with the community to make “home-brew” possible. We’ll see if it’s just a marketing strategy or if they going to follow a new approach…

Mobile Phone Polishing Paste

Hama polising paste

Hama, a manufacturer of photographic, optical, Audio/Video and computer accessories sells a polishing paste for mobile phone displays. They say “To remove slight to moderate scratches, and clean plastic surfaces, particularly mobile phone displays”.

I have a few scratches at the bottom of my iPhone (beside the hardware button), so I bought this stuff for € 6.99 and hoped to remove some scratches, but I found out it’s no use at all! I did it a few times but it still looks the same.

Conclusion: Never buy polishing paste for mobile phones!!! It’s just crap.
